Manchester United eviscerated on Twitter following first half display against Norwich
Manchester United have received some scathing criticism on social media following their first half performance against Norwich at Carrow Road.
This afternoon’s early kick off in the Premier League is of equal significance for both sides, whom are in dire need of three points.
Currently second from bottom, Norwich simply must win if they are to stand any chance of avoiding the drop. That they have played a game more than nearest rivals Sunderland only makes their situation increasingly dire.
Manchester United, on the other hand, remain in the hunt for the lucrative fourth Champions League spot, which would go a long way in saving Louis Van Gaal’s job.
Three points behind Manchester City with a game in hand, a win today would put United in an eminently favourable position prior to their final two games against West Ham and Bournemouth.
However, you’d never know it judging by the 45 minutes of listless play they offered in the opening period. Anthony Martial suffered an injury during the warm up, while Marcus Rashford is being rested and, in their absence, the visitors have astonishingly proved vapid. It was 0-0 at the turn.
As such, Twitter has given them a serious hammering
In a must win match, this is the worst United have played all season. If we were playing against a quality side we'd be 4 or 5 down at half— United Centre (@utdcentre) May 7, 2016
Alarming how much Manchester United rely on Anthony Martial. The Frenchman carries them forward. De Gea provides damage limitation.— Liam Canning (@OffsideLiam) May 7, 2016
Since United’s performance normally degrades in the second half the double might well be on for Norwich. Concerning— United Rant (@unitedrant) May 7, 2016
The lack of desire, urgency and purpose is frightening. United offering absolutely nothing.— Adam Sweeney (@AdamWSweeney) May 7, 2016
United needs 4points from the last 3games just to equal the points from the Moyes era, what an achivement for LVG after 2 years & 250m spent— UTD Interest (@UtdInterest) May 7, 2016
23rd time this season Manchester United haven't scored in the first half. #MUFC— Manchester United (@ManUtdUpdates_) May 7, 2016
