Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has given the biggest indication yet that he is close to signing for Manchester United, after offering up the most positive response yet to the prospects of a move to Old Trafford.

Appearing on French TV show Quotidien, the France striker appeared to give a big hint that his much-discussed move to United is edging closer, as he suggested there was a 60 per-cent chance of the move happening this summer.

Griezmann has been heavily linked with United in recent months, but he has constantly side-stepped questions over a possible move and insisted he was happy at Atletico Madrid.

The 26-year-old went on record to suggest he had doubts over a move to Manchester United due to the wet English weather and the intrusion into his private life by the media, sparking reports that United boss Jose Mourinho had turned his attentions to other transfer targets.

Yet when asked about the possibility of following in the footsteps of his idol David Beckham by joining United, Grizemann said it was ‘possible’, before he was asked to rate the chances of the move happening out of ten as he replied: ‘Six’.

Griezmann also appeared to rule out a move to Real Madrid and suggested his future will be resolved in the next two weeks, with his comments certain to fuel the suspicion that a deal for him to move to United has already been loosely in place for several months.

A fee of around £75m would be required to lure Griezmann out of Atletico Madrid, with United chiefs confirming in recent months that the striker who scored 26 goals in all competitions this season is their top transfer target.

Mourinho has also made it clear that he is looking to sign at least one top striker this summer, with skipper Wayne Rooney expected to leave the club and veteran forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic unlikely to play for United again after suffering knee ligament damage last month.

Griezmann has hinted he wouild only consider joining a club that was playing Champions League football and it may be that the decision over his future will only be made once Manchester United’s fate for next season is known.

Victory in Wednesday night’s Europa League final against Ajax will secure Champions League football and it may well also open the door for them to conclude a deal for Griezmann.
