Anthony Martial has posted a pointed Twitter message to dispel the rumours he is ready to leave Manchester United.

After a sparkling first season at United following his high profile arrival from Monaco in the summer of 2015, Martial became something of a bit-part player under manager Jose Mourinho last season and was given several public dressing downs by his boss.

There were strong rumours that the French international was tempted to leave United in last January’s transfer window after he was linked with a move to Spain, but that story came to nothing.

Now he is believed to be a transfer target for United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal, with reports in the UK newspapers suggesting that the 21-year-old was ready to tell Old Trafford chiefs that he wanted to leave the club.

United’s pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic appeared to cloud Martial’s future, yet he has been quick to dispel the rumours that he is preparing to make a move this summer with a simple tweet.

“The rumours are false,” he wrote, with the message instantly receiving a hugely positive response from United fans who remain firmly supportive of the forward who started just 18 Premier League games last season.
