Jose Mourinho was blunt when explaining why he brought out-of-favour midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger back into first team training after months out in the cold..

The German has been frozen out of the first team all season but Mourinho now wants to build up his match fitness so he can offload Schweinsteiger during the January transfer window.

According to The Sun, the club is resigned to the fact that teams are unlikely to pay a transfer fee for the aging star, and are preparing to buy him out of his contract so he can leave on a free transfer.

The paper says that Schweinsteiger might receive as much as £10m as United look to get his £180,000 per week wages off their books.

The World Cup-winner arrived at Man United from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2015 but after an underwhelming first season with Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho quickly decided that Schweinsteiger had no part to play in his new regime.

It is thought that China or America are likely destinations for the German legend.
