Man City prepare huge €115m package in attempt to snatch Liverpool's top transfer target
Man City are preparing a huge offer to lure Southampton centre back Virgil van Dijk to the Ethiad this summer, according to reports.
Liverpool were thought to be favourites to sign the 25-year-old, with the Dutch defender keen to play under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp. However, The Times is reporting today that Man City are prepared to offer Southampton £50m for van Dijk and quadruple his wages to roughly £180,000 per week in a five year deal, which brings the total package to about £100m (€115m).
Man City have already signalled their intent to spend big this summer, after splashing over £85m on Portuguese winger Bernardo Silva and Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson.
Pep Guardiola hopes to partner van Dijk with John Stones at the heart of the City defence, flanked by Spurs' Kyle Walker and Monaco left back Benjamin Mendy, who would also command big transfer fees.
Southampton are hoping for £60m before they agree to sell their top asset, with Chelsea also in contention.
