Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has handed Premier League debuts to 20-year-old Tyler Blackett and 21-year-old Jesse Lingard as he prepares for his first Premier League game against Swansea at Old Trafford (kick-off 12.45pm)

Summer signing Luke Shaw is injured so Tyler Blackett gets his chance to shine while Jesse Lingard, who impressed on a loan spell at Birmingham City last season, also makes the team.

Lingard scored 10 goals, created 52 chances and recorded six assists last season.

Van Gaal will play the 3-5-2 formation that took the Netherlands to the World Cup semi-final, with Lingard and Ashley Young the wing-backs. Wayne Rooney will captain the side.

Van Gaal admitted yesterday his squad was looking a bit thin - there are also several youngsters on the Manchester United bench.

Robin van Persie is also out of the game and maxican striker Javier Hernandez starts up front for the Red Devils.

Gylfi Sigurdsson starts for Swansea in midfield with former Arsenal netminder Lukasz Fabianski between the sticks for his new club.

Man Utd starting XI: De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Blackett, Lingard, Fletcher, Ander Herrera, Young, Mata, Hernandez, Rooney. Subs: Januzaj, Nani, Kagawa, Fellaini, Michael Keane, Amos, James.

Swansea starting XI: Fabianski, Rangel, Amat, Williams, Taylor, Ki, Shelvey, Routledge, Sigurdsson, Dyer, Bony. Subs: Gomis, Tiendalli, Montero, Tremmel, Bartley, Richards, Sheehan.

Referee: Mike Dean
