Louis van Gaal fines Man United stars for being one minute late for lunch
Old Trafford manager erupts after his players arrive just one minute late for a team meal, according to Marouane Fellaini
Louis van Gaal has hit his Manchester United players with heavy fines for being just one minute late for lunch.
The Old Trafford manager - who has a well-earned reputation as an arch-disciplinarian - handed out punishments to players including Marouane Fellaini after they were tardy at the club's canteen at their Carrington training ground.
Fellaini also revealed that Van Gaal hits players in the pocket for committing bad fouls in matches.
In quotes reported in The Mirror, Fellaini said: "He blew a fuse when a group of 10 of us were one minute late for lunch after training.
Marouane Fellaini has revealed Louis van Gaal's pet hate - players being late for lunch
"You think a minute is nothing and it wasn't for training, but for the canteen. But for him it was important. He dished out a few fines.
"That's what happens to latecomers and even for a red card. You get fined, too, for a bad foul."
Van Gaal takes his team to Crystal Palace this evening aiming to tighten his grip on a Champions League qualification spot, and end a run of three straight defeats which has seen United fail to score a single goal.
The Dutchman's main concern ahead of the match is an infection which has swept his squad, and left him nursing a sore throat.
"We have a virus in our dressing room," said van Gaal, who has also seen England midfielder Michael Carrick ruled out for the rest of the season with a calf injury.
"I have a little bit of pain in the throat. (James) Wilson also has had that for one week but is recovering now. Maybe he can be on the bench (at Palace). A lot of players are suffering (from it)."
