Long insists Baggies are keeping feet on the ground

SEVENTH placed West Brom travel to struggling QPR today and Shane Long insists the Baggies are not thinking about a European spot – but that their only aim is 40 points and Premier League safety

“It was always the case to get to 40 points as soon as we can and then aim for higher and better things then,” said the Ireland striker. “It is only 10 points away at the moment – it could be done in four games

“We had an aim for the last couple of weeks to get to 30 points before Christmas and we have done that. At the halfway stage it is a good return.” Long is expected to start against QPR after manager Steve Clarke chose to rest him for the first 62 minutes in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Norwich and the Baggies will be looking for all three points

The former Reading forward said: “There are three or four games over the Christmas period where you can get a lot of points

And it can change the shape of the table fairly quick

“With QPR away it is never an easy game, they lost again on Saturday, so they will be looking for a few points – then Manchester United at Old Trafford and Fulham. Tough games, but games where we can definitely get results.”
