Klopp makes stark warning to his Liverpool title chasers
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made a stark warning to his title chasing stars, after confirming he is ready to drop them from his first team if they start to believe the hype around them.
The Reds have been in hugely impressive form this season and appear to be ready to challenge for the Premier League title in a season when they free of the burdens of European competition.
Yet the demanding German tactician has issued a stern warning to his star names in a bid to remind them that their spot in the Liverpool first team is far from assured.
“There is something I can tell the players from the time we won with Dortmund and it is not think too much about it. That will help.” began Klopp.
“If somebody is a character and wants to celebrate position one (being at the top of the table) in November then he will not play in December anymore, because I see it pretty quick.
“It is better to be in the number one spot one time than never in your life, but it is not really important in this moment. If you then celebrate this and don’t be professional any more then you have a problem.
“It is not too difficult. Nothing has happened until now. It is better to be one time in first place than never in your life but it is not really important in this moment. There is nothing to think about.
“If I went to the players and said: ‘Don’t think we are first’ or ‘we are first but nothing has been reached’ they would think I’m silly because they know this already.
“Stay cool, play football and see what happens.”
Liverpool lost top spot in the Premier League after a 0-0 draw against Southampton last Saturday, but they have a chance to get back to winning ways when they welcome Sunderland to Anfield next weekend.
