Barcelona will test Liverpool's resolve in the coming days with a £120m bid for Philippe Coutinho - according to the Daily Star.

Having sold Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for £198m, Barca want to beef up their attack before the start of the season, and have long been linked with a move for Coutinho.

Liverpool's manager Jurgen Klopp has been insisting all summer that Coutinho, 25, will not be sold, but a bid of almost double the original £70m that was originally offered could be too much to resist.

Certainly Barcelona are confident that they will get their main, according to The Sun, and the same paper claims Coutinho could move for as little (in relative terms!) as £90m.

French sports daily L'Equipe meanwhile reports that Barcelona are closing in on a deal for Borussia Dortmund's 20-year-old starlet Ousmane Dembele, who has also been linked with Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal. The young forward is reportedly keen to join Barcelona, and the question is now of negotiating a fee, with Dortmund holding out for around £90.

PSG's Julian Draxler is also a Barcelona target, according to the German newspaper Bild.

The Express claims that Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale. Both clubs are hopeful that Real will be forced to sell the Welshman if they sign Kylian Mbappe for £160m from Monaco.

Leicester are continuing to dig their heels in over Riyad Mahrez, and have, according to Sky Sport Italia, rejected a third bid from Roma - this one at £31.6m - for the Algerian playmaker.

Elsewhere, Everton are "close" to completing the signing of Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to their manager Ronald Koeman.

Sigurdsson is valued by his club at £50m, with Everton having had bids of £40m and £45m rejected earlier this summer. Koeman told Sky Sports News: "We are close [on Sigurdsson], we have to wait. But still, the deal is not done.

"Everybody knows we are looking for three more players - a left centre-back, a left full-back, a player who can play out of both positions, a winger and a striker and that's the picture, what the best is for our team and we will see what we can do.

Finally, the Daily Mail reports that Brighton are poised to sign PSV midfielder Davy Propper for the retro sum of £3.5m.

Done deal

Stoke will shortly announcing the signing of Cameroon forward Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who will join on a free after running down his contract at Schalke - according to the Daily Mail.

Choupo-Moting can play out wide or as a striker, and he could be joined at the Bet365 Stadium by Andros Townsend who is reportedly a Stoke target.

Throwback

On this day in 2012, Arsenal signed Santi Cazorla from Malaga for around £15m. The two-footed Spaniard has gone on to make 129 league appearances, clocking up 35 assists and 25 goals in that time.
