Liverpool transfer news: Reds to up the ante with £25million Christian Benteke bid
Brendan Rodgers looks to add more signings
Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Christian Benteke, and will make an improved bid of £25m for the player, according to The Mirror.
On Wednesday, the Telegraph reported that Aston Villa will drive a hard bargain for the Belgian this summer, but it appears the Reds are desperate to land the striker.
Earlier this month the Belgium international informed Villa, via his representative, that he had no plans to sign an improved £70,000 a week deal which would have made him the club’s best paid player.
And although Manchester United and Chelsea have shown interest in the 24-year-old he is not considered a priority, leaving Liverpool as the only serious contenders to sign him.
Liverpool have already bolstered their forward options this week with the signing of Roberto Firmino, but Brendan Rodgers is far from finished in the transfer market, especially if Raheem Sterling leaves.
Benteke has a £32.5million release clause, but Liverpool will hope their latest bid forces Villa's hand.
Another striker who could end up at Anfield this summer is Sevilla frontman Carlos Bacca.
The Brazilian player's agent has hinted that a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.
"We are really looking at three things - number one is to have a happy family situation for his wife and son because he had a bad experience in Belgium," Bacca's agent Sergio Barila told The Guardian.

"The second is to find a good team with a good project. Before he went to Chile, we wrote down a list of clubs that fit that description and Liverpool was on that list.
"The third question is the contract. He has a good salary in Sevilla but we know how much clubs in England can pay."
Bacca has scored 34 La Liga goals in 71 appearances for Sevilla.
Liverpool are also considering making a move for Barcelona forward Pedro, according to The Mirror.
The Spaniard signed a deal to keep him at the club until 2019, but is understood by Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo to have had a change of heart.
The 27-year-old is reportedly losing patience with his lack of game time at the Nou Camp, where Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez are all ahead in the pecking order.
Finally, the Reds have launched a bid for Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev, according to The Metro.
Cheryshev, 24, scored four goals in 26 La Liga games during a successful loan spell at Villarreal last season.
