Liverpool transfer news: James Milner to snub Arsenal and move to Anfield
The replacement for Steven Gerrard is on his way to Anfield, and his name is James Milner. The Manchester City midfielder has made his mind up, according to the Daily Star, and will choose Liverpool red over Arsenal red next season.
Milner will arrive on a free transfer hoping for more playing time than he has enjoyed under Manuel Pellegrini in Manchester.
Arsenal were thought to be interested in the England midfielder, but the Star says he has chosen Liverpool instead, partly because he feels he can step into the shoes vacated by Gerrard
Rickie Lambert will be offered to Aston Villa as a makeweight in an approach for striker Christian Benteke, says the Mirror.
Chelsea are also interested in the Beligan, but Liverpool hope the offer of their unwanted England striker plus a large pile of money will help secure Benteke's services.
Villa were keen to sign Lambert in January, but the former Southampton man elected to stay at Anfield and fight for his place.
Tim Sherwood still hopes to persuade Benteke to stay in the Midlands, but with only two years left on his contract he is widely expected to swap clubs this summer.
Meanwhile the Metro reports that Jurgen Klopp is now far more likely to replace Brendan Rodgers after Liverpool's final day humiliation at Stoke.
Liverpool lost 6-1 at the Britannia on Sunday which may prompt Liverpool's owners to sack Rodgers, who has not yet won a trophy on Merseyside
Klopp is likely to be the most in-demand manager in Europe over the summer months and the odds of him taking over at Anfield are now as short as 5/4 with some bookmakers.
