Long rumoured Liverpool target Mario Gotze has stunningly announced that he wants to stay at Bayern Munich and fight for a place under new coach Carlo Ancelotti, according to reports in Germany.
Bild is reporting that the versatile attacker, who has enjoyed a frustrating three season spell at Bayern Munich under outgoing manager Pep Guardiola, is prepared to stay at the Bavarian giants and fight for his place.
It was thought that the World Cup final hero could reunite with his former Dortmund manager, Jurgen Klopp, at Liverpool or even rejoin his former club, who are now coached by Thomas Tuchel.
But the German international, who famously netted the winner against Argentina to deliver his country a World Cup, has reportedly spurned those opportunities and will work under Ancelotti, who is replacing Pep Guardiola this summer.
Gotze joined Munich from Dortmund in 2013 but despite showing flashes of brilliance, a combination of injures, poor form, and competition for places saw his playing time become increasingly limited as Guardiola's tenure came to a close.
