Liverpool plotting another Southampton swoop with Klopp considering £40m raid for defensive duo
Liverpool are expected to bolster their backline in the January transfer window and Jurgen Klopp is reportedly contemplating making two Southampton players his latest signings as he attempts to build a title-winning squad.
Liverpool have started the season strongly, currently occupying second place in the table, just one point off Chelsea through 12 games.
However, the Reds' good form has been largely down to their devastating 30-goal attack, with their defence already leaking 14 goals to date.
To that end, the Anfield outfit could go do with some rearguard reinforcements, and The Sun is reporting that two Southampton defenders are Liverpool targets.
The Saints have been regularly raided by their Premier League rivals in recent seasons, with Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert, Nathaniel Clyne and Sadio Mane all making the switch, and Lallana, Lovren and Mane all joining for big money.
The paper is reporting that centre back Virgil van Dijk and full back Sam McQueen could both make the move in January, with the pair evaluated at £40m to join as a duo.
The 25-year-old Dutchman has impressed at Southampton since joining from Celtic and although he recently signed a six-year contract extension at St Mary's, many expect him to move on to a bigger club in the near future.
McQueen (21) could be the answer to Liverpool's left back woes, with Klopp forced to play midfielder James Milner there as a makeshift defender this season.
