Jerome gains revenge on Pompey

Wednesday March 10 2010

Cameron Jerome scored twice as Birmingham gained revenge for Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Fratton Park and pushed Pompey further towards relegation.

Portsmouth will be 14 points adrift of safety when their nine-point deduction for entering administration is ratified, although they do have an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to.

They were reassured yesterday that administration would not compromise their participation in the last four, as had been feared.

Birmingham continue to fly high in the league, moving above Everton up to eighth place last night.

They took the lead in the 17th minute, when Jerome latched on to Christian Benitez's through-ball and slotted confidently past David James.

Benitez was booked for diving and missed a glaring chance before his glorious back-heel sent Jerome away to double the lead.

Kanu scored a stoppage-time consolation for the hosts.
