Jamie Vardy reveals which defender troubles him most
Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy is among the most feared and prolific strikers in the Premier League, but there is one defender in particular he never enjoys coming up against.
If any one player personifies Leicester’s scarcely believable title charge this season it’s Jamie Vardy. Like his club, Vardy made his way through the many strata of English football to finally take his place on the biggest stage.
The Foxes have somehow managed to overcome the financial gulf between them and the traditional elite to amass a five point lead at the top of the table with seven games to go.
Only Tottenham’s Harry Kane has scored more league goals this season than his 29-year-old- Engalnd teammate, who currently has 19. The former non-league footballer was also on target for his country during last night's loss to Holland and last week as they beat Germany.
Vardy’s pace and drive have made him a handful all season for defences and when asked which centre half has hindered him most, he had an interesting answer.
"On a personal level, Chris Smalling," Vardy told Betfair. "He’s always tight and always around you to stop you from doing your bit on the ball or getting turned. It makes it very difficult for you to bring your team-mates into the game as well."
However, Smalling couldn’t stop Vardy netting the opener during a 1-1 draw when their sides met in November.
