Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is hitting in the headlines for the wrong reasons once again, after he was reportedly interviewed by police following an altercation in a nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The Daily Mirror have featured the story that included images of Wilshere outside the Cafe de Paris nightclub in London, with onlookers giving accounts of the exchange, a they also suggested Wilshere was interviewed by police at the scene.
It has also published a video that appeared to show Wilshere hiding behind bins before speaking to police, while onlookers plead with him: “Jack, don’t get nicked.”
However, Wilshere is thought to have told Arsenal that he denies any allegation of assault, and the club consider the incident to be a private matter.
Neither the club nor the player have made an official statement on the allegations.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "At 2.15am on Sunday, 3 April, police patrolling Coventry Street became aware of two groups of males involved in an altercation.
"Officers intervened and one man claimed he was assaulted. He did not require hospital treatment.
"There have been no arrests and inquiries continue. We will not comment on who may or may not have been involved."
It is the latest unwanted negative incident involving Wilshere, after he was publicly chastised by his manager Arsene Wenger for being photographed smoking on three separate occasions.
Wilshere was also fined by the Football Association for taunting Tottenham fans, while he was involved in an angry exchange with a taxi driver who refused to take him home as he was deemed to be "too drunk" back in 2011.
The fresh round of headline grabbing activity from Wilshere comes at a time when he is close to making a return to action after missing the entire Premier League season due to injury.
In fact, Wilshere has made just nine Premier League starts in the last TWO seasons for Arsenal as he has struggled to recover from a series of injury problems.
There are reports that Wenger will speak to Wilshere about his latest incident, which is likely to spark fresh speculation over the England midfielder's long-term future at Arsenal.
