Inter Milan want to sign Yaya Toure on a free transfer to help finance his huge wages. Toure is one of a number of players Manchester City are willing to let go this summer and Inter are confident of taking him to Italy.

The Ivorian, who turns 32 next week, earns around £200,000 a week at City and has two years remaining on his contract. He will have to accept a wage cut to move to Inter, but the Serie A club still face having to make him their highest-paid player.

Inter are under scrutiny from Uefa over Financial Fair Play after running up £133m of debt.

Manager Roberto Mancini is desperate to secure Toure, with whom he worked at City, but he is not in control of Inter's finances.

With so few clubs able to afford Toure and aware he is an enormous burden on City's wage bill, Inter will propose signing the midfielder on a free transfer.

Toure's performances have dipped this season and City are preparing a major rebuild. James Milner is poised to leave on a free transfer and join Liverpool while Samir Nasri, Eden Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic and Aleksandar Kolarov could all be sold.
