The former England striker has given us all a sneak peek of what could be in store for viewers when he posted a photo (left) to Instagram with the caption “Rehearsals for MOTD are going well”.

Many – including the man himself – might have thought the 55-year-old’s claim was safe enough given Leicester were a huge 5,000/1 to win the Premier League at the start of the season.

But Leicester City were crowned champions after nearest rivals Tottenham Hotspur could only manage a draw against Chelsea.

Lineker, who scored 95 goals for his boyhood club, said: “Leicester City have won the Premier League. The biggest sporting shock of my lifetime, and it’s only my team.”

The former England striker will now have to present the first episode of next season’s Match Of The Day in his pants.

Lineker also revealed his one fear when he does fulfill his obligation on Saturday night. Responding to questions whether he would rise to the challenge, the Beeb pundit quipped: It's rising during the challenge that worries me."

His ex-wife Danielle Bux tweeted the star to say “hope they’re whiter than white Links”.

Singer Adele, who comes from Tottenham, said: “Proud of you Spurs! But Leicester... What an inspiration, the best f***** story ever! Congratulations!!!!”

Newcastle United fan Declan Donnelly also posted online, saying on the Ant and Dec Twitter account: “Congratulations Leicester City! What an achievement. Thrilled for you and envious of you in equal measure! Enjoy.”
