Wigan suffered yet another defeat to slump to the bottom of the Premier League table as goals from Clint Dempsey and Moussa Dembele earned Fulham a precious three points at the DW Stadium.

The Latics had more than enough chances to win the game but just could not find the net, with Gary Caldwell heading over in the first half and Victor Moses and Maynor Figueroa both hitting the woodwork in the second.

"It's not a moment to feel sorry for yourself or blame other people, it's a moment for everybody to improve individually an extra 5 per cent and make sure we get the first win as soon as we can," said Wigan boss Roberto Martinez said.

Wigan had paid for a failure to turn their dominance into goals at Newcastle last week and Fulham went ahead through Dempsey in the 41st minute against the run of play.

Despite their best efforts, Wigan's fate was sealed on 86 minutes when Dembele slotted home from the edge of the area past Al Habsi.

Fulham boss Martin Jol was sympathetic to Wigan's plight, saying: "Wigan have earned the same lesson that we have, if you don't score then you don't get the points."
