Everton 'prepared to listen to offers' for James McCarthy as Schneiderlin undergoes medical at Goodison
Everton are prepared to listen to offers for Ireland midfielder James McCarthy after finally getting a deal across the line to sign Morgan Schneiderlin.
The Manchester United outcast is on his way to Goodison Park to undergo a medical in a £22m deal and that has cast further doubt on McCarthy's future after a season where Ronald Koeman has consistently preferred other options.
Gareth Barry and Idrissa Gueye started the campaign in the engine room and then injury and a dispute between Koeman and Martin O'Neill over international call-ups complicated his position.
He did get back into the side in December before suffering another setback and Gueye's absence in the coming weeks due to the African Cup of Nations appeared to open the door for a change in fortunes.
However, the arrival of Schneiderlin - a favourite of Koeman from their time together at Southampton - is a blow to his chances of returning to the fold on a regular basis.
And local reports in Liverpool say that the Toffees have rejected the possibility of any loan moves for the Glaswegian but will entertain permanent offers as Koeman mulls over his future.
West Brom are monitoring the situation and, after missing out on Schneiderlin, they could make an offer to test Everton's resolve.
