Embarrassed Latics to refund fans' ticket price

Tuesday November 24 2009

The Wigan players beaten 9-1 by Spurs have offered to refund the cost of match tickets for their fans. Wigan conceded a Premier League record-equalling number of goals at White Hart Lane on Sunday, with Jermain Defoe scoring five of eight Tottenham goals in the second half.

Wigan defender Mario Melchiot said the players were embarrassed and wanted to apologise to the fans by paying the cost of their match tickets. Melchiot said, "as a group of professionals we were embarrassed by the way we performed."
