Dunne's mystery injury proves a headache for club and country

RICHARD DUNNE'S availability for Ireland's qualification matches after Christmas remains in doubt after he suffered another injury setback.
The centre-half has not played since injuring his groin during the European Championships and has had to watch from the sidelines as both Aston Villa and Ireland have struggled in his absence.
Villa boss Paul Lambert confirmed that Dunne (left) had been sent back to a specialist after the defender, who has been with the club since 2009, showed little signs of improvement and the injury itself appears to remain something of a mystery.
Relegation-threatened Villa are believed to be open to offers for the 33-year-old Dubliner, but it looks increasingly unlikely that he will be available to play when the transfer window opens in January.
