David De Gea to sack agent after failing to secure Real Madrid move - reports
'Super agent' Jorge Mendes could pay the price for failing to secure David De Gea's move to Real Madrid before the end of the transfer window.
The Manchester United goalkeeper is believed to have hired him three years ago with the sole aim to secure him a move away from Old Trafford, and now the Spanish international may have decided for a change of representative with a move to Los Bloncos failing to materialise.
De Gea’s move to Real appears to be less likely with each day that goes by, especially as Real defender Sergio Ramos signed a new five-year contract with the club to end any chance of joining United in a deal that would include De Gea.
With a year left on his contract, De Gea looks set to be on his way out of Old Trafford within the next year, although Real could speed up that process should they match United’s £28m valuation before the 1 September deadline.
Should De Gea remain at United for the final year of his current deal, the Spain No 1 goalkeeper will be due around €5m (£3.55m), but with his contract expired next summer De Gea will no longer require Mendes to structure a move.
Accoridng to Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, De Gea could decide to axe Mendes for not completing a move to Real, and the reports adds that the Portuguese football agent was only signed up by De Gea ahead of a planned move to Real should they follow up their interest a few years ago.
Mendes has emerged as one of the leading football agents in the world in recent years, having structured Radamel Falcao’s numerous moves to Atletico Madrid, Monaco, United and most recently Chelsea while also looking after Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
