Everton defender Seamus Coleman believes that his club and country team-mate James McCarthy is suited by additional attacking responsibility in Roberto Martinez's plans.

The Glaswegian opened the scoring for the Toffees in last Sunday's dismissal of Manchester United and, while Coleman has always been a huge fan of the 24-year-old, he thinks the central midfielder has really responded to the challenge to get forward and add to that side of his game.

"The last month or so he's got more of a role going forward and he's relished it," said Coleman,

"He set up a few goals, he's got a couple of goals, one against Newcastle and again against United and week in, week out he's been brilliant for us. James is a top, top player for Everton."
