Dublin teenager Daniel Cleary was last night handed a shock call-up for Liverpool's pre-season tour of the Far East.

The Reds - led by new skipper Jordan Henderson - jet off to Thailand tomorrow; their three-week tour will also take in games in Australia, Malaysia and Finland, increasing the prospect of the 19-year-old rookie getting some time on the pitch.

Cleary's elevation is a reward for some impressive performances last season when he led the club to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

The Ireland U-19 international centre-back, who played for Crumlin United before moving to Anfield, has already trained with the first-team squad on several occasions.
