Chicken feed for Big Sam
THE indian poultry firm set to seal a £46m takeover of Blackburn Rovers yesterday ruled out any lavish spending sprees at the Premier League club.
Anita J Desai, chief executive of Venkateshwara Hatcheries, popularly called Venky's, said the company, which hopes to buy Rovers by the end of November, would stump up just £5m for new players and ruled out big-name buys.
"We won't need to buy expensive players, we can always lease them," said Desai, who hinted that more funds might be available later. "We don't expect to be in the top five of the Premier League. We will be happy to be in the top 10."
Last week, Rovers' manager Sam Allardyce welcomed news of a takeover, saying that the club needed investment.
