Chelsea steal march on rivals with 'verbal agreement' for €40m Brazilian - reports
Guus Hiddink has almost crossed the T's and dotted the i's on his first signing since returning as Chelsea manager.
Alex Teixeira's €40m switch from Shakhtar Donestsk to Stamford Bridge is nearing completion after the player agreed to the move, according to the Express.
Although a contract has still not been signed, the report adds that a "verbal agreement" has been reached between Teixeira and Chelsea.
The 25-year-old has scored 26 goals for Shakhtar this season including a double against Real Madrid in the Champions League. The Ukrainian giants, however, exited Europe's top competition in the group stage.
Now with Shakhtar out of Europe, Teixeira could make the move to west London and team up with a side who have reached the knockout stages of the competition.
Shakhtar wanted to hold on to Teixeira for the rest of their domestic season, which restarts in March after the winter break, but they are losing the battle to keep him after the player indicated he wants to move to England.
PSG and Juventus have also been keeping tabs on the Brazilian, but it is thought Chelsea are in pole position to land the star.
Chelsea could face January competition for £30m-rated striker Jamie Vardy from Manchester City but Leicester City will fight to retain their centre-forward.
