Jordan Tabor, 23, is believed to have dropped from the third floor of his hotel in the resort of Lara Beach, near Antalya, early on Wednesday, the Mirror reported.

Tabor, who played for AFC Hinksey, in Oxford, was found dead by employees at the Titanic Hotel at 6am, according to the newspaper.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.

His mother, Louise Bates, told the London Evening Standard: “He was amazing. He was my life and soul, there is nothing more to say. We just need time to grieve.”

Tabor had been holidaying with a group of seven friends, many of whom posted tributes on social media.

Danielle McEachran described Tabor as “my best friend, my whole world and my meme”.

She wrote on Instagram: “I can't describe how much this hurts but I am grateful for everyone being there for me and both our families.”

Her brother Josh, who is a Chelsea midfielder, posted a picture on Twitter and wrote: “Rest in peace my older brother Jordan Tabor. Love you forever mate!”

And Scarlett Sadler wrote on Instagram:  “[It] doesn't feel right arriving with eight, leaving with seven, but when I think of you, funny memories spring to mind!

“I'll see you again one day.”

Tabor was a member of Chelsea’s youth academy for four years until 2009.

Then, aged 18, he went on to join Cheltenham FC for three months before moving to play non-league football for Didcot Town.

He studied at Santa Barbara City College on a scholarship and returned home to play for Kidlington and AFC Hinksey.

The Turkish resort declined to comment on Tabor’s death and referred calls to the British Embassy in Antalya.

The Foreign Office said it was providing consular assistance to Tabor’s family but would not comment on the circumstances of his death.
