Wayne Bridge has been spared an uncomfortable reunion with John Terry this weekend after being ruled out for two weeks with a thigh injury.

Manchester City defender Bridge faces at least a fortnight on the sidelines with the injury that caused him to miss City's 2-0 win at Wigan on Sunday.

And the problem means he will now be sat in the stands when Chelsea captain Terry, set to return from a rib injury lay-off, embarks on the pre-match handshake ritual with the opposition prior to City's clash with the champions at Eastlands on Saturday.

Bridge refused to shake hands with Terry prior to last February's 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge following revelations of Terry's relationship with Bridge's former partner, Vanessa Perroncel.
