Borussia Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile lined up to replace Mario Balotelli at Liverpool
Liverpool want to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile to replace Mario Balotelli this summer.
Immobile was sensational for Torino in the 2013-14 season, finishing as Serie A top goalscorer with 22 goals. However, following a move to Dortmund last summer for £15.5m he took a long time to settle.
Immobile did not score his first goal for Dortmund until December and has only found the back of the net three times this season.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has said on his website: "Ciro Immobile could be leaving Germany for England.
"Liverpool are interested in the Italian striker. The Reds have contacted Borussia Dortmund’s director Zorc. Immobile could replace Balotelli."
It is also rumoured that Immobile's seven-bedroomed mansion is up for sale despite the Italian only living it in for less than a year.
Martin Skrtel has moved closer to signing a new deal at the club.
Wolfsburg had been linked with a move for the defender, but Liverpool are hopeful of announcing an extension to his current deal.
Skrtel's agent Karol Csonto said: "The only offer which is lying on Martin Skrtel's table right now is the extension of his contract from Liverpool.
"We have been working on the details, and we will be finalising it soon.
"It is not true that he has some offer from the German club. I don't know anything even about their interest."
Liverpool are also thought to be close to an agreement over a new deal for Jordon Ibe.
