Blackpool in fixtures crux

Blackpool are facing a major fixtures backlog after their third Premier League home game in a row was called off yesterday due to the freezing conditions.
The clash with Liverpool fell victim to the adverse weather after overnight temperatures of minus nine degrees meant a scheduled midday inspection was brought forward to 10.0 because of concerns about the Bloomfield Road pitch, which does not have undersoil heating.
Despite covers and hot-air blowers being employed over the last few days, an assessment of the playing surface showed there was no possibility of play. The game has already been rescheduled for January 12, with an 8.0 kick-off. Blackpool have already had to postpone matches against Manchester United and Tottenham.
Everton's game against Birmingham at Goodison Park was also postponed because the big freeze left the stadium in an unfit condition for the match. The club reported there were "several miles of frozen pipes, many of which burst during the course of Christmas Day night".
Ipswich, who played in thick snow at home to Leicester last weekend, had their game against Watford at Portman Road called off at 1.15. Referee Grant Hegley deemed the pitch unfit, with sections still not properly thawed.
