Beckford rescues 10-man Toffees

Believing that Bolton had suddenly become Barcelona following Owen Coyle's appointment as manager was a conclusion that many jumped to without examining the evidence, but while they still make the most of the muscle of Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander, they have just as much guile.

Elmander demonstrated as much when he beat Phil Jagielka with ease only to be denied by Sylvain Distin's block and then twice went close from set-pieces.

Everton struggled for penetration until the recalled Louis Saha spun and fired in a drive that was palmed away by Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Matthew Taylor glanced a header on to the bar from a corner but with 11 minutes remaining, the visitors took the lead on the break. Taylor pulled clear down the left and whipped over a cross that was touched in at the far post by Ivan Klasnic.

Everton's cause looked to be lost when Marouane Fellaini was dismissed with a straight red after challenging Paul Robinson, but Jermaine Beckford had the last laugh with almost the final kick of the game to salvage a point.
