Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will look to sign Leicester talisman Riyad Mahrez if he fails in his bid to keep Alexis Sanchez this summer, Independent.ie understands.

Sanchez is entering the final year of his Arsenal contract, with the latest reports suggesting the Chilean international will reject all offers from the north London club as he looks to force through a move to Bayern Munich.

Sanchez agent Fernando Felicevich is believed to have held talks with Bayern over their interest in Sanchez, with a fee in the region of £50m believed to be required for the deal to become reality.

The Times are reporting that Sanchez will not sign a new contract with Arsenal and that may force the club to sell their star asset this summer, as they look to rebuild their squad after failing to secure Champions League football this season.

With manager Arsene Wenger set to remain in charge for another two seasons, the veteran Frenchman will look to revitalise his squad and a move for unsettled Leicester star Mahrez will not come as a surprise.

Wenger made moves to sign Mahrez last summer after his sparkling performances helped Leicester to an improbable Premier League title triumph last season.

While Arsenal failed in that transfer bid and a subsequent offer to sign Mahrez's Leicester team-mate Jamie Vardy, Wenger is now lining up a fresh bid for the 2015/16 PFA Player of the Year as the Algerian midfielder confirmed he is keen to leave Leicester this summer.

Wenger is expected to embark on a huge summer of spending as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season, with KAS Eupen forward Henry Onyekuru set to be the first of his summer signings after it emerged the Nigerian is close to sealing a £6.8m deal to join the Gunners.
