Anthony Martial linked with move away from Man United as Mourinho reveals how many players he wants to sign
Inter Milan have enquired about signing Anthony Martial as part of a deal that will see their winger Ivan Perisic complete a move to Manchester United, according to reports in Italy.
United have been negotiating a deal to sign Perisic for the past two months, with the €50m asking price appearing to be a major stumbling block for a player who was one of manager Jose Mourinho’s first choice transfer targets this summer.
Now Sky Italia have claimed Inter Milan want to take Martial to the San Siro if they give the green light to the deal, with the future of the French forward who signed for United in the summer of 2015 under threat if Perisic arrives at Old Trafford.
Martial struggled to make his mark at United last season, with the 21-year-old forward and his agent publicly criticised by Mourinho as he was left out of key games, including the Europa League final in May.
It is hard to see where Martial would fit into Mourinho’s plans if Perisic arrives as United’s first choice winger, with a loan move a possibility for a player who moved to Old Trafford amid a blaze of publicity in a deal worth in excess of £50m.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has confirmed he is chasing two more major signings this summer, as he looks to add to the captures of Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof.
“We don’t have our door closed. We are not happy with just Lukaku and Lindelof. We need more,” he confirmed.
“We wanted four, so I could say 50 percent of the job is done, but I won't say that because it's so difficult. I wouldn't like to be in Ed Woodward's position, negotiating, because everything is really difficult.
“Maybe we don’t get two, maybe we got one, but we need one to give us more options and balance. We have players in the squad that cannot play football for the next few months; players like Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young.
“So I don’t want to say (Nemanja) Matic or any other name because I don't think it's correct to do it.”
