Alex Ferguson could play an important part in convincing Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Manchester United, according to reports in Spain.
Marca claims that the legendary former United manager is keen for the deal to go ahead, and will use his close relationship with Ronaldo to ensure a deal is done.
The pair allegedly met in early November to discuss a potential return to Old Trafford, and it’s also claimed that Ferguson is working with the Glazers in an advisory capacity, with a big focus on buying back Ronaldo.
Judging by reports from the last few days, it appears to be a straight shootout between United and Paris Saint-Germain for the Balon D'Or winner's signature.
There is of course the option of Ronaldo staying at Madrid, and Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes said of the Portuguese leaving the Bernabeu: "It is impossible. He will end his career at Real Madrid."
But the rumour mill has decided to ignore that little soundbite for now; after all what do agents know eh?
The mill prefers to focus on Louis van Gaal saying: “We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable. With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope.”
One thing is for sure, you will be hearing a lot more about this one between now and the end of the January transfer window.
