Gabriel Agbonlahor has stepped down as club captain and apologised for his behaviour in a message to Aston Villa supporters.
Agbonlahor has also been fined two weeks' wages - about £100,000 - following an investigation into the striker's conduct after he was pictured using laughing gas on the night the club were relegated.
The former England international was suspended when the latest allegations came to light but that ban will end on Monday, although he is not expected to play again this season.
"I am stepping down as club captain immediately as I do not deserve to carry out such a role anymore. This role was a huge honour to me and it hurts to have lost it," he wrote on Instagram.
