John Delaney is under the spotlight once again following confirmation that he accepted a €5million pay off from FIFA following the controversial Thierry Henry handball that led to Ireland failing to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.
Delaney insists that “it was good business for the FAI but the FAI CEO has come under severe criticism from the media and fans.
FIFA claimed the money given to the FAI was to be used “to build a new stadium in Ireland” and the FAI are now under pressure to disclose exactly where the money went.
Following the heartbreak in Paris almost six years ago, Delaney was quoted as saying it “is not about the money, it’s about the integrity of the game”.
Fans have vented their fury on social media, with some claiming he “sold out the country” while the international headlines have been scathing.
