Last time out Southampton embarrassed reigning champions Manchester City 3-1 and before that drew at Wigan and lost narrowly at Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson said Pochettino's men were the best team to play at Old Trafford this season and the manager is hoping for a similar performance on Sunday.

"I think it is very important for the players that played those two away games to know they played really well," he said. "I am not in it for me, I am in it for the team. The fact that the team got those two good results playing well is great. The victories are always down to the team and what is clear is that we will got to Newcastle looking for the three points."

Only goal difference separates Southampton and the Magpies, who suffered a 2-0 defeat at St Mary's in the corresponding fixture.

"We have the same expectations and ambitions," Pochettino said. "For example we want to go to Newcastle and get the three points.

"We know that whatever has happened in football in the past doesn't count for anything in the future, so we will keep moving forwards.

"We are going to encounter a very attack minded team who get forward quickly.

"But we go with the same set up that we have been playing with and the intention of getting the three points.

"They are a dynamic team who get forward quickly, especially with their latest signings, they have grown with their speed in how rapidly they can attack."
