Past Manchester derbies in the FA Cup
Manchester United and Manchester City will meet in the semi-finals of the FA Cup for only the second time tomorrow.
The sides last met at this stage in 1926, when City won 3-0 at Bramall Lane before losing to Bolton in the final, with the Blues also being relegated in the same season.
Here, we recall the previous six FA Cup encounters between the sides.
Manchester United 4 Manchester City 2 - February 14, 2004, Old Trafford
The Manchester rivals last met in the fifth round seven years ago when a Ruud van Nistelrooy double helped them to victory. Paul Scholes put United in front in the 34th minute but they were reduced to 10 men five minutes later when Gary Neville was sent off.
Two goals in three minutes - one from Van Nistelrooy and the other from Cristiano Ronaldo - put United well in control before Michael Tarnat pulled one back for City.
Van Nistelrooy's second came with 10 minutes left and Robbie Fowler added another consolation for Kevin Keegan's team. United went on to win the cup, beating Millwall 3-0 in the final in Cardiff.
Manchester United 2 Manchester City 1, February 18, 1996, Old Trafford
Lee Sharpe scored United's winner in the second half to complete a comeback in this fifth-round tie.
Uwe Rosler opened the scoring with a chip over Peter Schmeichel but Eric Cantona's penalty meant the match was level at half-time. The Frenchman was to be key later in the competition as he scored the only goal in a disappointing final against Liverpool at Wembley.
Manchester United 1 Manchester City 0, January 10, 1987, Old Trafford
This FA Cup third-round clash was Sir Alex Ferguson's first encounter with his local rivals and Norman Whiteside's second-half goal ensured he would end it on top. However, they were dumped out in the next round while City were relegated to the old Division Two.
Manchester United 3 Manchester City 0, January 24, 1970, Old Trafford
One from Willie Morgan and a brace from Brian Kidd - now Roberto Mancini's right-hand man at City - booked United's place in the fifth round, where they thrashed Northampton 8-2 with George Best scoring six. Their run ended at the hands of Leeds in the semi-final.
Manchester City 2 Manchester United 0, January 29, 1955, Maine Road
City have to go back more than 56 years for their last success against United in the FA Cup. Joe Hayes and future Leeds and England manager Don Revie scored the second-half goals in this fourth-round tie for the Blues, who went on to lose to Newcastle in the final before winning the competition for a third time in 1956.
Manchester City 3 Manchester United 0, March 21, 1926, Bramall Lane
Tommy Browell scored a brace for City inside the first half hour of this semi-final meeting in Sheffield to book their place in the final, but Bolton claimed the glory with a solitary goal from David Jack at Wembley. It was a strange season for City, who also enjoyed a 6-1 league success against United but were relegated to Division Two.
