Soccer club in mourning after teenage footballer (16) dies following collapse

A teenage footballer (16) has died after collapsing on the field of play during a match today in Dublin.
Belvedere FC has said that it is "devastated" after the tragic developments which occurred during an U-16 match between the club and St. Kevin's.
St. Kevin's had a defibrillator at the scene within 60 seconds of the collapse but it is believed the young man died instantly.
The player will not be named until all family members have been contacted.
The club has released a statement today after the shocking incident.
"Belvedere Football Club is mourning the death of one of our U16 players who tragically collapsed while playing for the club today," the statement read.

"While all of our members are in deep shock, our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this tragic time.
"We ask that the privacy of the family be respected as the club supports them in grieving their boy. We won’t be releasing the player's name until all family members have been contacted.
"The club will also support our U16 players, coaches and parents who are devastated at the loss of a very popular team-mate.
Chairman Paddy Dempsey of the Dublin District Schoolboy League has offered his condolences to the family.
"Everyone involved in the schoolboy's league offers their deepest sympathies on this tragic news," he said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the young kid's family and friends at this very tough time."
