Clare Shine scored twice for Raheny United as they continued their excellent Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win over Bulgarian side NSA Sofia in Romania yesterday.

She scored in first-half stoppage time and then struck just after the resumption to secure a deserved success for the Irish champions.

The Dublin side are in control at the top of Group 3 with this success building on their excellent win over hosts Olimpia Cluj last Friday.

Raheny are top of the tree with six points and finish the quickfire round robin tournament against struggling Hibernians of Malta on Thursday.

A solitary point from the encounter with the group's whipping girls - who have conceded 10 goals without reply - would be enough to secure progression to the knockout stages.

"This was a super win for us," said Raheny boss Casey McQuillan.

"Clare Shine definitely shone today, but she had a fantastic supporting cast in the rest of the girls.

"We are absolutely delighted with the result, but will keep our feet firmly on the ground until the job is done on Thursday. We are taking nothing for granted."
