Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has turned up in some pretty garish suits for FIFA's Ballon d'Or ceremony in recent years, but he has followed a more conventional sartorial guide for this year's gala event.

Twitter was awash with rumours of Messi's suit of choice, as he looked to follow up his classic spotty outfit from 2013, while who can forget this wine effort from last year, when he finished as runner-up to Cristiano Ronaldo in the race to be crowned as World Player of the Year.

This year's suit was a lot less exciting, but at least Messi is expected to pick up the main prize this time after his sparkling 2015 that included a Champions League triumph.

If Messi's suit was a bit of a disappointment, then Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba was determined to stand out from the crowd with this little effort that could only be described as different.
