Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has said he was disappointed by Richard Dunne's decision to retire from international football as he still had a lot to offer Ireland.
While he understood the decision made by the Irish legend to prolong his club career, he believes the QPR defender was capable of continuing his career with the Boys in Green
"I was disappointed that he wanted to retire because I still think he is well and truly capable," he said at today's press conference ahead of his first competitive squad ahead of the European Championship qualifier away to Georgia.
"I would never have written him off."
"I understand he wanted to play in the league games last year and when you play in the Championship there is no respite, so he missed international matches."
"He did make himself available for the summer matches. I was disappointed that he wanted to retire."
