Irish barrister David Casserly is involved in Luis Suarez’s urgent appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne for his bite on Giorgio Chiellini.

Suarez, FC Barcelona and the Uruguayan Football Association have launched the urgent appeal against the ban handed down by FIFA for the incident with Italian defender Chiellini during the World Cup.

The full decision of the FIFA Appeal Committee was issued on yesterday and an appeal was filed today by Spanish lawyers Pintó Ruiz y Del Valle and Irish barrister Casserly.

It is understood that the case will be dealt with in an accelerated arbitration with a hearing likely to be held on August 8th. It is not clear at this stage as to when a final decision will be issued by the CAS, but it is expected to be shortly after the hearing.

The 27 year-old is currently ineligible to play for Barcelona or Uruguay, pending the outcome of the arbitration and if the ban remains he would be due to make his debut against Real Madrid on the weekend of October 25.
