An Aaron Connolly goal followed by two from Adam Idah secured a top-two finish with one game to spare.

On 49 minutes, Rowan Roache fed Connolly, who cut inside and blasted in a shot off the underside of the bar.

Five minutes later, Idah headed in Roache's corner.

Within a minute, Zhaslan Kairkenov latched onto a loose ball on the edge of the area to reduce the deficit but four minutes later, the Kazakhs were reduced to ten men when Sanzhar Aitym picked up a second yellow.

In injury time, Connolly was taken down in the area and Idah sent the keeper the wrong way to wrap up the victory.

Ireland face Greece in the final group game on Thursday with first place in the group up for grabs. Ireland are top on goal difference.

Ireland - Maher, L O'Connor, Peppard, Ledwidge, Collins, Bolger, Brennan (Coventry 73), Connolly, Idah, Thompson (Nolan 67), Roache.
