Graham Burke is planning to follow his pal Jack Grealish's lead by using Notts County as a springboard to success.

Grealish has attributed his dramatic ascent this season at Aston Villa partly to the schooling he received while on loan at the League One strugglers last term.

Burke, another Villa academy graduate, has been thrust into the same position, playing in County's last six games as they've jumped out of the drop zone heading into Saturday's final day.

"You see the likes of Jack doing well here and that shows I can do the same," said the 21-year-old Belvedere product.

"I'm playing football with a smile on my face. I've played on both wings and up top, but my preferred position is to be off the striker, in the hole. I believe that I can make things happen there."

The Ireland U-21 international played alongside Grealish on the Villa team that won the NextGen series in 2013.

Burke, who is out of contract in June, is hoping that he has done enough over the last few weeks to convince Villa manager Tim Sherwood to give him a new deal.
