Friends and family members will bid farewell to broadcasting legend Bill O'Herlihy on Friday morning.
O'Herlihy will be laid to rest in Shanganagh Cemetery following his funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in Foxrock in Dublin at 11.30am.
The 76-year-old broadcaster passed away on Monday morning following a heart attack.
His sudden death came as a shock to his family, co-workers and sports fans.
"It hit me like a truck," former Fine Gael strategist and friend Frank Flannery told the Irish Independent.
"It was sudden and shocking. Bill was entering an exciting new phase of his life, he was working on different projects and a new RTÉ TV series in the works." Flannery added: "He was a fantastic broadcaster but had no ego. He will be greatly missed."
Fellow RTÉ colleague Marty Whelan spoke kindly of O'Herlihy yesterday.
"It was heart-breaking," Whelan said.
"He was such a lovely man. He was always there and chatty, he was really special. A gorgeous man."
