Nicollin in hot water over rant
MONTPELLIER president Louis Nicollin is in deep merde following an X-rated rant last Saturday after his team went top of the French league.
After Montpellier's 1-0 win over Nice, Monsieur Nicollin was asked if the fact that the unfashionable club were top was a sign of weakness in the league. We searched high and low for a translation of his response and in the end we must thank the 'Guardian' and their 'Fiver' scribes for their knowledge of Gallic profanities.
Unfortunately his initial, stark response cannot be reproduced in a family newspaper, but he added: "Not very becoming, my response, eh? It's scandalous talk. But when Brest were leaders, people took the bloody p**s. Must it always be Marseille or Lyon who's top? When Saint-Etienne were leading, their heads became huge."
Nicollin has now been summoned to appear before the French Football Federation's ethics committee to explain his comments.
