Molloy inspires Derry to rout Lilies in return to winning ways
Saturday September 05 2009
DERRY City got back to winning ways with this well-deserved victory over Dundalk.
First-half strikes from Thomas Stewart and Tam McManus and a 88th-minute Liam Kearney header secured the points against 10-men.
The home side took the lead as early as the fourth minute when Barry Molloy's tremendous pass released Stewart and he calmly side-stepped 'keeper Peter Cherrie before side-footing home.
Dundalk were disappointing throughout the opening 45 minutes and the home side increased their lead when more good play by Molloy created the opening for McManus, who blasted home his first goal in front of the Brandywell faithful.
The visitor's miserable night was compounded in the 43rd minute when striker Alex Williams was cautioned for a foul on Clive Delaney and the Scot was dismissed seconds later for dissent.
Two minutes from time, a Kearney header at the back post added the gloss for Derry.
